I can’t quite put my finger on why I like this shot, but I do. It was taken just behind the fence at the bottom of my garden. I’d taken a couple of dozen shots of the stick over a couple of weekends, mostly in black and white. None quite hit the spot until I took this shot, in colour, when a dash of sunlight burst through and illuminated part of the stick, and the red leaf which was absent from most of the earlier shots. The bone-white stick, the sunlight, the splash of red, it all combines in such a way as to appeal to me. That’s all I can tell you.
